An exhibition dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Raphael Santi’s death, in the memory of the greatest master of the Renaissance. The Museum’s collection allows us to get a complete picture of all stages of Raphael’s work. Students of the Academy of arts in St. Petersburg, as in other European academies, studied on the heritage of antiquity and the Renaissance. Copy practice was one of the main aspects of the method of teaching fine arts.

That’s why the Museum of Academy of Arts has a large collection of painting and graphic copies of the Raphael Santi’s works and school. Especially valuable are life-size copies of Raphael’s Vatican frescoes by such masters of Russian art as Karl Brullov and Peter Basin. The exhibition with more than seventy paintings and drawings from the Museum’s collection, will be deployed in a temporary exhibition hall, one of which is called “Raphael”.
